BAE Systems Albuquerque office is a key provider of technical services to the Air Force Research Laboratory Directed Energy and Space Vehicles directorates located on Kirtland Air Force Base, NM. Our multi-discipline staff provides a broad range of scientific and engineering services, including execution of laboratory and field experiments; diagnostics design and development; and laser design, fabrication, maintenance, and operation. We are seeking qualified personnel to join our science and technology-oriented organization to assist in laboratory and field experiments, novel diagnostics systems design and development, and general research and development (R&D) associated with laser tests.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers missions. What You ll Do:

  • Conceive and develop innovative solutions to engineering problems through the application of professional and industry-wide accepted engineering techniques, practices, and procedures. Ensure that engineering work conforms to high technical and company standards and meets or exceeds all contract requirements.

  • Analyze, evaluate, and recommend innovative solutions, applications, and/or design approaches required for meeting test objectives that may be complex and difficult in scope.

  • Design, develop, modify, and/or implement optics-based diagnostic tools to characterize and quantify laser-material interactions in support of test objectives.

  • Utilize specialized laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, Fourier-Transform Infrared Radiometers (FTIR), photo-thermal common-path interferometers (PCI), or scatterometers to measure optical properties of materials of interest.

  • Compile and prepare necessary data and documentation (e.g., briefings, test plans, and reports) to support technical meetings and end-item product delivery.

  • Present technical information to program managers and customers as required.

  • May lead disciplinary teams in the set-up, execution, and documentation of laboratory and field test efforts. May also be responsible for tracking associated performance against costs, budgets, and schedules.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SME) from various disciplines to collect and analyze data in support of modeling and simulation (M&S) software development and performance assessment of aerospace systems.

  • Promote the development of a strong team by participation in key aspects projects and mentoring more junior team members.

  • May work with classified documents which requires thorough knowledge of DoD procedures for the proper usage and safeguarding of classified information.

  • Maintain and update required records and reports.

  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.

  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.

  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 5 or more years related experience.

  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education.

  • Experience with lasers, laser characterization, optical devices, data acquisition systems (e.g., National Instruments PXI), and standard laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with standard software analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB) and Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel) is required.

  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills

  • Excellent communication skills.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $116000 - $144250

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
