As a Hardware Design Engineer, you will join group of talented professionals responsible for the bringup, integration and validation of cutting edge System on a Chip (SoC) products for the Data Center Solutions Business Unit.
About the Job:
A Hardware Design Engineer in the Silicon Hardware Validation group works with the rest of the team to prepare for "first silicon" arrival and SOC validation. You are responsible for helping to design and build the infrastructure that is required to integrate and validate leading edge SOC designs for their intended use models. You will work with multiple cross functional teams to deliver designs that meet and exceed the latest industry specifications in support of the systems under test. This can include the schematic capture and layout design of main validation boards, backplanes, adapters, breakout boards, and a variety of other PCB hardware requirements. Design requirements are frequently industry leading edge protocols, rates and power requirements leading to the need for in-depth knowledge in all areas related to printed circuit board design.
As a Data Center Solutions Hardware Design Engineer, you will be involved in designing, building and implementing complex hardware design used to build the required infrastructure to test leading edge prototype IC's in their intended applications.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Board schematic capture fulfilling design requirements. Items include power delivery designs, clocking designs, high speed design considerations, part selection, BOM creation, stackup definition.
Complete board layout including all design considerations, routing, preparation for manufacturing
Working with board contract manufacturers to fabricate and assemble PCBs
Working with other validation engineers to specify and design the boards required for validation execution
Validate feasibility of board designs and layouts through trial layouts or simulations
Working with cross functional teams to guide the package design and board routing feasibility
Work with validation teams to ensure design choices are made with optimal costs in mind, brining industry experience and best practices to design decisions
Propose process improvements to ensure PCB functionality, manufacturability, quality and reliability
Learning industry trends and new tools with dynamic application to ongoing designs
Effectively presenting technical information to small teams of engineers
Bachelor's Degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Engineering Technology
5+ years relevant industry experience in the design of PCBs
Excellent proficiency in PCB development CAD tools, especially Cadence Allegro and all embedded tools
Excellent understanding of high speed design constraints and board routing implementation
Excellent knowledge of PCB manufacturing technologies and processes
Deep understanding of high speed signal integrity, power integrity and EMI issues with respect to board designs
System level debug skills to help bring up boards in the validation lab as required
Ability to use lab equipment such as high speed oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, etc.
Expertise in component research and sourcing, knowledge of vendors and solutions
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work well with teams
