In this position...

Develop and integrate innovative next generation electrified powertrain systems and technologies for future products with an emphasis on electrified vehicles. Our organization is growing and is in search of outstanding individuals to help shape the direction of our next generation electrified propulsion systems. Successful applicants will provide HV battery systems expertise for advanced propulsion system design, lead integration of HV battery systems, and develop systems-level tradeoffs in advanced propulsion systems and vehicles.

What you'll do...

Provide HV battery systems expertise for advanced propulsion system design, including understanding of how battery cell type, chemistry, sizing, charge/discharge power limits, and package affect system tradeoffs and vehicle-level attributes, such as vehicle fuel economy, performance, and charging behavior

Work with HV battery and vehicle program teams to size and select the HV batteries for advanced propulsion systems based on multiple competing priorities (e.g. power, energy, mass, charging)

Lead integration of HV battery systems in advanced propulsion systems and vehicles

Lead cross functional teams (e.g. battery, motor, driveline, high voltage system, power unit or transmission, controls, calibration, simulation, thermal) to develop requirements, attribute assessment, robustness assessment, and design verification plans for new electrified technology which may include full vehicle design, build and test

Work with vehicle simulation, thermal, and component teams to assess propulsion system design trade-offs between thermal, packaging, NVH and hardware/software solutions and impact to vehicle performance, range/fuel economy, and cooling

Collect/analyze propulsion system and vehicle data to optimize the propulsion system design

Apply systems engineering and problem-solving tools and methods (Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, DFMEA) for system and technology concept development, cascading requirements and project scoping.

Use customer-focused design principles when developing advanced propulsion technologies

Prepare and present technical project reviews to management

You'll have...

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or related field or equivalent experience

2+ years prior experience with electrified systems including high voltage battery sizing, packaging, testing and integration or a combination of education and equivalent experience

1+ years of hands-on experience conducting bench or vehicle level testing.

Even better, you may have...

Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or related field

4+ years prior experience with electrified systems including high voltage battery sizing, packaging, testing and integration or a combination of education and equivalent experience

2+ years of hands-on experience conducting bench or vehicle level testing.

Passion for and understanding of all electrified powertrain systems (battery, motor, thermal)

Previous experience in start-up company or Formula SAE team-based challenge or similar

Experience designing, developing and testing hardware from first idea to real world

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, self-motivated and eager to take on responsibility and deliver results with minimal supervision

Ability and interest to design clean-sheet advanced propulsion systems

Experience or understanding of different HV battery cell formats, e.g. cylindrical, pouch, prismatic

Experience or understanding of different HV battery cell chemistries

Understanding of battery controls (i.e close/open contactors, request cooling, derate strategy)

Demonstrated leadership, technical, communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent written & verbal communication skills

Working knowledge of 3D CAD tools and Matlab

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project)

Willingness and ability to travel to remote Vehicle Proving Ground sites

Ability to use basic physics to predict torque, power and energy required for different use cases
