High School Music Paraprofessional

Job Description

Purpose: The vocal music paraprofessional is the vocal music accompanist for the

students at Derby High School.

Responsible to: Vocal Music Teacher/Administration

Salary: Instructional Support Hourly Rate Schedule, Level 4

Classification of Employment: Non-Exempt

Date: July 2019

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Desire to continue career improvement.

3. Must be accomplished on the piano or keyboard.

Essential Functions:

1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

a. Appropriately operate all machines and equipment as required.

b. Support the value of an education.

c. Support the philosophy and mission of Derby Public Schools.

d. Ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.

e. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.

f. Requires the ability to play open score choral music.

g. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.

h. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

2. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

a. Requires the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.

b. Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push

heavy objects or materials.

c. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach.

d. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

General Responsibilities:

1. Observe district policies at all times.

2. Accompany multiple choirs during daily rehearsals, focusing on pitch and rhythm

learning.

3. Accompany at extra music practices during seminar and after school.

4. Accompany multiple choirs and other select ensembles at several choir concerts a

year.

5. Accompany multiple choirs at performances around the community (approximately

20 extra performances per year).

6. Accompany choirs and ensembles for district and state choir festivals.

7. Accompany soloists at district and state festivals.

8. Accompany at the DHS musical rehearsals after regular contract hours (afternoons,

evenings, and weekends).

9. Accompany at multiple musical performances a year.

10. Devise accompaniments, if needed, for acappella songs.

11. Work personally with students on their solos during seminars to prepare for

performances.

12. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.

13. Other duties as assigned by the supervisors, which are consistent with the general

requirements and qualifications of the position.
