Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Office of Engagement and Extension ( OEE ) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. In addition to CSU Extended Campus, OEE includes CSU Extension (including Colorado 4-H), the Colorado Water Center, and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension ( VPEE ) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for these divisions, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. These divisions work collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus, and have strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US and globally. At any given time, OEE’s divisions include over 400 employees. The total of budgets for all divisions is approximately $70 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Position Summary

The Salesforce Developer supports the CSU Office of Engagement and Extension mission to assist prospective and current students in achieving their academic goals through improvement of the Salesforce customer relationship management ( CRM ) and marketing automation systems. A member of the Information Technology team, this position works collaboratively with the Student Success and Engagement team and the Marketing and Communications team to meet organizational goals.

Success in this position is focused on, but not limited to, supporting the organization’s use of Salesforce Sales Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud, and related software systems. Key activities include partnering with designated leaders and unit liaisons to understand processes and needs, define solutions, and work in a hands-on technical role to achieve the desired solution. This position will also collaborate to identify opportunities for innovation and growth, and implement appropriate functionality and technical solutions, which may include software add-ons.

The position requires a thorough understanding of customer relationship management systems and their role in lead nurturing, sales, tracking, and evaluation. The selected candidate will be an effective problem solver with the ability to approach problems logically and systematically with a strong technical aptitude and passion for delivering sound business solutions.

This position reports to the Manager of Salesforce, Applications, and Data Systems and is based at Drake Hall, 2545 Research Blvd, Fort Collins, CO with the potential for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Computer Information System, or related discipline) OR any bachelor’s degree plus 2 or more years of professional experience. Candidates with a High School Diploma (or GED ) plus 3 or more years of related professional experience and a Salesforce Administrator certification will be considered for employment (without the required degree).

  • Three years of experience in a technical role supporting a customer relationship management system ( CRM ) and/or marketing automation system.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline.

  • Platform App Builder Certification, Salesforce Developer I Certification.

  • Five years of experience in a technical role supporting a CRM , preferable Salesforce.

  • One year of experience with a marketing automation system.

  • Three years of experience with a modern relational database management system ( RDBMS ).

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical topics by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise.

  • One year of experience leading projects and/or managing technical teams.

  • Expert knowledge in one or more relevant development technologies such as Apex, Lighting Web Components, Visualforce, SQL and SOQL .

  • Experience with Salesforce Commerce Cloud.

  • Experience in using Salesforce DX for source-driven development, efficient CI/CD processes.

  • Knowledge and experience with middleware integration platforms (Boomi, Mulesoft, or Informatica).

Duty/Responsibility

  • Serve as the primary liaison with the internal CRM user community, the Student Success and Engagement team, and the Marketing and Communications team, to ensure system processes are functioning as desired.

  • Prioritize, schedule, and resolve requests for system changes, enhancements, reports, workflows, and corrections.

  • Continually monitor data quality and integrity to ensure CRM reporting and underlying data accurately reflect current processes.

  • In coordination with the Marketing and Communications team, manage, maintain, and enhance CRM configuration to ensure student email communication processes are functioning as desired.

  • In coordination with the Manager of Recruitment and Enrollment, manage, maintain, and enhance CRM configuration to ensure compliance with state, federal, and university regulations relating to data privacy. Examples include but aren’t limited to FERPA and federal Do Not Call list rules.

  • Create and manage CRM -based reports as an aid for student outreach, retention, and recruitment activities.

  • Manage all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle ( SDLC ) including application design, configuration, customization, integration, testing and support including, but not limited to, gathering requirements, designing the future state solution, the development objects related to their process scope, as well as supporting, testing, and post implementation support.

  • Coordinate demos and partnerships with external vendors, manage ongoing software updates, and manage changes to CRM system.

  • Coordinate with Marketing and Communications team to evaluate, recommend, and implement change to successfully use the CRM to implement email marketing and student communications strategies.

  • Coordinate with the Student Success and Engagement team to assure system and data consistency and partner to research, analyze, develop, and adjust student success strategies.

  • Work in coordination with the OEE Application Services team to design and develop both new software applications and enhancements to existing software applications that meet business specifications.

  • Define technical solution objectives through analysis of user requirements, system features and functionality, and serve as the enterprise applications development expert on project teams.
