GE Vernova Test Engineer in Houston, Texas

Job Description Summary

Responsible for facilitating transactions, producing, assembling and delivering replacement/ repair parts and equipment as part of a Services agreement or order.

Includes activities such as processing transactions, managing processes, material management, site operations, or warehouse logistics & shipping, sometimes in a shop structure. Includes craft & non craft labour as well as manager roles responsible solely for these activities. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the forecasting, outlining special test requirements, and monitoring of overhaul turbine test operations and test results, including the resolution of engine performance, combustion, or rotor dynamic issues.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve test facility and turbine engine operational issues using advanced lean practices, high speed data acquisition systems, PLC systems, 6Sigma and other process improvement practices.

  • Perform engine operational tuning and approval of test data including generation of certified test reports.

  • Responsible for outlining and overseeing test systems upgrades to accommodate new products or replace obsolete equipment.

  • Works in a team that includes other Test Engineers, Test Technicians, and Metrology with goals of meeting safety and quality goals.

  • Coordinate resources to achieve goals with a timely and cost-effective strategy · Lead and assist in daily operations; Develop, coordinate, lead, and execute daily production plans and coordinate consistent and effective shift-to-shift transition · Develop and implement process controls. Support operations leader in the strategic planning of manpower, equipment, and other resources.

  • Includes direct people management responsibility including staffing and performance development. Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.

  • Uses some judgment and has some ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses technical experience and analytical thinking. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Physics or High school Diploma/GED and at least 4 years of experience in Gas Turbine testing or working with rotating industrial machinery

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Work flexibility to support varying work hours, including weekends, and holidays as required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Lean manufacturing

  • Understanding of thermodynamic combustion cycles

  • Six Sigma training

  • Experience with Woodward controls

  • Experience with PLCs

  • Basic vibration analysis experience
