Microchip Technology ASIC Verification Engineer in Montreal, Canada



Microchip Corporation is currently looking for junior ASIC Verification Engineers to join our Communications Business Unit’s Product Development Team in Montreal, QC, Canada.

Are you interested in joining an experienced semiconductor development team with a focus on hardware functional verification and simulation? Our development teams design, test, integrate and prepare for fabrication both analog and digital logic to be assembled and embedded into leading edge semiconductor products. Our products are highly integrated system-on-chip (SoC) silicon solutions addressing the needs of networking, telecom or datacom applications for equipment manufacturers.

As a member of the verification team, you will be involved in the verification/testing of solutions under development with the goal to ensure the delivery of complex, functionally correct, silicon solutions with best-in-class quality. In joining our team, you will gain knowledge of, and continue to improve, our advanced verification methodologies leveraging the latest tools, practices and hardware verification languages. As a junior member of the team you will be mentored, trained and coached to become responsible for the verification of function blocks comprised of both hardware and software.

Responsibilities include the:

  • The understanding of engineering documentation outlining functionality and implementation requirements of components under development. Also includes the learning and understanding of networking protocols and/or standards.

  • Development and implementation of verification testbenches, testbench components and bus-functional models in SystemVerilog, SystemC or C languages using standardized verification methodologies such as UVM.

  • Definition, documenting and execution of verification test plans to verify complex block or sub-system level designs (100K to 10M+ gates) leveraging coverage metrics and constrained random-driven verification techniques.

  • Collaboration in partnership with design and software teams to plan verification activities, including release schedule of testbench environments enabling agile development.

  • Participation in the execution of validation phase feature test plan focused on low level and system level testing with actual prototypes in validation lab.

  • Contribution to software development kit (SDK) deliverable by defining and reusing C-drivers, or programming sequences, outlined in the verification test plan.


  • Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Electrical, Software or Computer Engineering

  • Strong background, or work experience, in software with object oriented programming is a requirement for ASIC verification.

  • While working at the abstract software/verification layer, must be able to understand digital hardware architectures and logic (State-machines, RAMs, Registers, Buses and etc).

  • Must be self-driven & proactive in wanting to understand, learn more, do more & make a difference.

  • Excellent analytical and debugging skills and the ability to proactively solve issues is required.

  • Knowledge of either of the following Hardware Verification languages is a requirement: SystemVerilog, Verilog, SystemC.

  • Ability to work in a Linux shell environment and Linux scripting (CSH/TCL/Perl) is required.

  • Knowledge with practical usage of UVM or OVM is an asset.

  • Experience working with Cadence, Synopsys or Mentor verification platforms is an asset.

  • Experience with control revision tool such as Subversion, Git is an asset.

  • Experience in writing, reviewing requirements with a tool such as Doors, Serena is an asset.

  • Knowledge of Ethernet and OTN protocol is an asset

  • Experience in software agile methodologies and JIRA tool is an asset.
