R360 Canada, an affiliate of Waste Connections, offers a variety of services to clients in the energy, environmental and industrial sectors. These services are delivered via our network of facilities, along with our specialized equipment and assets. We are equipped to process, recover, recycle and dispose of waste and other materials safely and cost-effectively for our customers.

We are currently looking for a Landfill Operator at our La Glace Landfill located approximately 49km northwest of Grande Prairie. This role is shift work, working 7 days on and 7 days off, having hours of 7am-7pm.

Job Purpose

The Operator I position is responsible for the day-to-day safe and customer service-oriented operations of solid waste acceptance and placement. The Operator I will actively assist with standard operating procedures, hazard assessments, safety programs and environment protection. The Operator I will be in constant contact with customers and therefore must demonstrate excellent communications skills and a high level of customer service. In this role, the Operator I will be active in providing proper training and supervision, as such, strong attention to detail is imperative. As this is a safety-sensitive role and due to the nature of working conditions, the Operator I is required to be mentally and physically fit to successfully perform the tasks and responsibilities of this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Landfill safety (i.e. ensuring that each operation is following Standard Operating Procedures and safety work procedures, SWP permitting, Hazard Assessments and iTrak items are entered in a timely manner)

• Responsible for proper equipment operation

• Responsible for administering scale operations and data entry

• Collecting random samples

• Ensuring landfill and building maintenance

• Performing general cleaning duties throughout the day

• Conducting ongoing equipment maintenance

Qualifications/Competencies

The individual in this role will have:

• A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent

• A valid and acceptable driver’s license and successful completion of pre-employment testing

• A minimum of 2 years oilfield experience

• Completed all Pathways at the Operator 2 level (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced)

• Valid and current safety tickets including H2S Alive, First Aid Level One C, Confined Space Entry, WHIMS and TDG

• A strong attention to detail, communication skills and a profound ability to work long hours in a mentally and physically demanding work environment

• Mechanically inclined and productive when working alone under very limited supervision

• Proven ability to demonstrate strong teaching methods regarding all processes in the landfill, including; safety operations, scale operations, heavy equipment operation, landfill & building maintenance & sampling.
