Position Location: Remote - work virtually from most locations in the United States

JOB SUMMARY

The CFD Engineer Specialist will have the opportunity to work with and collaborate with senior design staff to further develop their CFD expertise for data center design and construction. This person will work as part of the Engineering Team and interact closely with the Project Management Team to produce construction documents, develop and edit project specifications and assist in the construction administration process.

The CFD Engineer Specialist will receive limited direction on day-to-day work and general instruction on new projects or assignments. Will execute and assist project leadership on projects of complex scope. Will work independently or under limited supervision.

The CFD Engineer Specialist will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Pre-Simulation Planning (30%)

  • Coordinate closely with design teams to refine simulation objectives, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of project requirements

  • Participate in discussions to define simulation prerequisites, collect necessary data, and establishing accurate initial conditions for simulations

  • Identify challenges and recommend modifications to design parameters or simulation setups, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the simulation process

    Guide and Direct CFD Simulation and Analysis Activities (30%)

  • Independently perform advanced CFD simulations and analyses.

  • Perform complex flow, heat transfer, and turbulence modeling tasks.

  • Perform intermediate computation analysis for complex projects, components, and systems.

  • Perform and analyze results from simulations to validate designs.

  • Utilize data center specific CFD software tools like 6SigmaRoom by Future Facilities / Cadence, or equivalent (TileFlow, CoolSim, Autodesk CFD, etc.).

  • Utilize general CFD software like Star CCM+ for building / wind analysis or HVAC related equipment manufacturing.

  • Review and/or prepare detailed simulation reports.

  • Develop and/or review boundary conditions and meshing strategies.

  • Assist in developing proposals including simulation scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Conduct technical discussions with clients, presenting simulation findings, interpret results, and provide insights for CFD analyses.

  • Timely and effective management of simulation tasks, including resource forecasting and coordination.

  • Identify potential deviations from expected results and develop strategies to address them.

  • Perform QAQC peer reviews for simulations where he or she is not the lead analyst.

    Guide and Direct Validation and Testing Activities 30%

  • Conduct rigorous validation of CFD results, employing advanced analytical techniques to ensure that simulations are both accurate and reflective of real-world conditions.

  • Collaborate with experimental teams to validate CFD results.

  • Prepare validation reports comparing CFD results with experimental data.

  • Work with the CFD team and interact closely with the experimental and project management teams.

  • Review and respond to technical queries related to simulations.

  • Review and complete validation checklists and documentation.

  • Review and approve modifications based on validation findings.

    Reporting (10%)

  • Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI log.

  • Manage personal hours using company tools.

    Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

    Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

    Requirements

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING)

  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics principles including boundary layers, laminar flows, and basic heat transfer.

  • Knowledge of core numerical methods in CFD like finite volume and element methods.

  • Knowledge of primary turbulence models and their applications.

  • Skilled in using CFD software for simulations and reviewing drawings with AutoCAD/Revit.

  • Skilled in using CFD data center specific software tools, especially 6Sigma by Future Facilities / Cadence or its equivalent.

  • Skilled extensively with Star CCM+ across various physics types and application areas, with focus on external CFD modeling of data centers.

  • Skilled in 3D modeling and cleaning and preparing complex CAD for CFD modeling.

  • Skilled in JAVA or Python scripting and comfortable with Linux and HPC systems preferred.

  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management.

  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace.

  • Ability to interpret results and communicate well in writing and verbally.

  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.

  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to communicate effectively directly with clients and at times serve as primary point of client contact.

  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.

  • Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position

    TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Approximately 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states

  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in engineering

PLUS

  • Fi ve to eight years' experience in a consultancy setting.
