Northrop Grumman Principal Engineer Supplier Quality in Woodland Hills, California

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer specialized in PWB (Printed Wire Board) commodity to join our Supplier Performance Management Field Engineering team. This team supports programs with suppliers across the United States and Internationally. The location can be LA County or Orange County, CA but mainly supports suppliers in Orange County, CA . This position works a 9/80 schedule and will travel an estimated 75%. While the majority of work will be performed remotely, the selected candidate will need to be able to come into the Woodland Hills campus as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform Specification Compliance Reviews, First Article Inspections and Source inspections on various categories of hardware. Printed Wire Board knowledge is required. Other commodities such as CCAs, microelectronics, RF modules, and/or electro-mechanical systems are preferred.

• Understands continuous process improvement (CI) and can effectively develop and execute Initiatives and activities.

• Initiate Corrective Action Plans and work with suppliers, manufacturing and engineering personnel to identify root cause(s) and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.

• Lead on-site supplier engagements, including supplier performance reviews and QMS (Quality Management System) audits.

• Perform process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure the supplier's processes are robust and capable, as well as compliant to Military and Space requirements.

• Analyze and interpret data to identify suppliers' process issues and developing solutions.

• Effectively perform supplier surveillance activities designed to manage and improve supplier performance, productivity, and process validation.

• Apply technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to analyze and audit our suppliers' processes and capabilities.

• Capable of leading cross-functional teams in pursuit of performance improvements aligned to department and organizational goals.

• Mitigate supplier quality risk to prevent/minimize business impact from supplied material defects.

• Proactive reduction and prevention of supplied material defect occurrences and verification of supplied material defect claims.

• Collaborate in a team environment, negotiate and integrate different viewpoints, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project results.

• Represent the company with credibility, confidence and professionalism.

• Be able to analyze and present data to all levels of leadership. Strong communication skills (both oral and written).

• Understands general contracting principles in a Department of Defense and commercial environment

• Establish positive working relationships with suppliers and internal teams.

Basic Qualifications for a Supplier Quality Engineer 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM related field with 5+ years of relevant experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Design engineering and/or 5+ years of experience in Continuous Improvement. OR master's degree in STEM related field with 3+ years of relevant experience in Quality, Manufacturing or Design engineering and/or 3+ years of experience in Continuous Improvement.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. US Citizenship required.

  • Inspection experience, process knowledge and/or manufacturing engineering experience in PWB.

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 requirements

  • Must be able to travel up to 75% of the Time

  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action

  • Demonstrate skill to lead teams and projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess current DOD Secret Clearance.

  • Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related engineering

  • Experience working in the defense industry.

  • Inspection experience, process knowledge and/or manufacturing engineering experience in other commodities such as CCAs, microelectronics, RF modules and/or electro-mechanical systems.

  • Certification in J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, IPC610, IPC620 and/or Mil-Std-883.

  • Space Certification

  • Six Sigma or Lean certifications.

  • Lead auditor experience to ISO 9001 and AS9100, AS9102 requirements.

  • Training in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ANSI Y14.5M)

  • ASQ Lead Auditor, CQE, and/or CQM Certification

Salary Range: $88,600 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
